To foster interest in Maths and encourage all pupils to aim high both in classwork and, in S4 to S6, exam performance.
Courses -
- S1/S2 courses are designed in the framework of 5-14 Guidelines.
- S3/S4 courses at C, G, F levels prepare pupils thoroughly for SQA exams.
- S5/S6 Higher Still courses are offered at Int1 and Int2, Higher, Advanced Higher (Maths and Applied Maths) levels.
Resources-
The main resource used is the series of Maths In Action texts. Backed up with a wide range of school produced support/extension, homework, exam practice materials. Organising these resources to get maximum benefit is an important role for pupils. We make extensive use of maths calculators and increasingly graphing calculators. Calculating, mental and non-calculator also has a place in all courses, S1-S5.
Extra Curricular -
We participate in both Scottish and UK Maths Challenges from S1-S6 and, currently, lunch clubs for Games Calculators run within the department. |
